Tip: Set Gmail as your default email client in Firefox 3

Well, okay. This is a repost of the official Google blog.

I put it here just because I don’t know where else I can put the link I can always remember and find immediately but here. The online bookmarking I’m using (del.icio.us) is not so friendly enough that I can browse through my own bookmarks XP

So, here it goes (I copied and pasted directly from the blog, I hope they don’t mind. No fuss about copyright or anything. I’m spreading the word about their feature though u know :P) :

For those of you using newly released Firefox 3, or willing to give it a try, you can take advantage of a new feature that lets you set Gmail as the default for all email links — those that contain “mailto:” in them. If you’re like me and don’t have a default email client set up, then clicking these links typically launches an installation wizard for a destkop mail client, or opens some email software that you don’t actually use.

Now you can configure Firefox to launch Gmail when you click on email address links and avoid the hassle. The folks over at Lifehacker published these tips on how to set it up: I don’t know why when I tried to put the javascript code to the browser from this post doesn’t work but the one from this lifehacker site did work.

1) Go to Gmail and sign in.

2) While in Gmail, copy and paste the following into your browser’s address bar and hit enter.

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(”mailto”,”https://

mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s”,”Gmail”)

Google Apps users can use this code (but be sure to replace yourdomain.com with your Google Apps domain name):

javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(”mailto”,”https://

mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s”,”Gmail”)

3) Click “Add Application” when you are prompted1. Congrats, you just added Gmail to your browser’s list of mail clients.

4) To set Gmail as your default, click on this link and you will be prompted with a dialog box listing available email applications. By selecting Gmail and checking “Remember my choice for mailto links” you won’t have to tell your browser again. (You don’t actually need to send an email after you click that link.)

You can always change this setting by going into “Tools” > “Options” (or “Firefox” > “Preferences,” for Mac users) selecting “Applications” and going to the “mailto” option. There’s a drop down next to the option that lets you change your default. Clicking “Application details” will take you to a settings page where you can completely remove Gmail or other mail apps.

1If nothing happens when you type in the code, double check that you copied the entire snippet correctly, and if nothing happens, you probably changed an advanced setting (maybe without even knowing) and need to set it back to default. To do it, type about:config into your browser and make sure that network.protocol-handler.external.mailto is on the default setting: true.

The real post is here.

Luck and Misfortune are not Heavenly Bestowed

One day, I was out of option in making design drafts, luckily I found an artbook at the bookstore which I can use as inspiration.

On the other day, you were walking down the stree coming home from the minimart and you found a coin in the middle of the paveway.

Do you feel lucky  that day? Do you thing it’s your luck ? How about my case ?

Well, I have a different perspective about luck, what it truelly is.

I say… “Luck is a collective interests of good deeds you’ve done in the past.” It’s not heavenly bestowed at all ! Well, I used to think so. Like some kind of fortune God has been clinging onto me and giving me a hand everytime I was in a pinch. I called him the God of Delaying Deadlines LOL ! (because I got lucky several times concerning to deadlines, reaaaaalllyyyyy lucky !)

Interest ? Why interest?

Here’s the illustration. Imagine that you’re planting an orange tree. You take care of it everyday with every inch of your body and mind effort. One day the flowers bloom then from the the orange fruits are coming out. That’s what you’ve after all this time, right ? You plant the tree so that you can have the fruits. That means the flowers are the interest. It’s the bonus that you can see a beautiful view and at the same time nice fragrance of the flowers.

The luck works just like that. There is no coincidence ! You can create luck ! Everytime you make good deeds, trying with your best to achieve good things. Someday the interest will be big enough and fall into your hands as luck. If you don’t believe me. Just try !

As for the sample I mentioned in the beginning of this post. You can say that the tiniest good deed I’ve done was to walk out of the madness and come to the bookstore. Usaha gitu lho !

And in the 2nd sample, you walked home ! Not taking the car, the general transport, or anything. Walking is good for your health ! :D

Thus, the best thing of this logic is that the bigger the goodness, the luck will be bigger too !Yaay !

Now, too bad that I can say the same about misfortune…

“Misfortune is a collective interests of carelessness you’ve done in the past.”

Oh shoot ! My house is on fire !

Oh, damn ! The rain fell so hard last night and now my area is in flood !

But, the difference is that it often be collected from others bad deeds that affect you.  the you in the sentence often be 3rd persons, too bad that it’s rare to be so for the luck :p

1st example, you might have carelessly leave the burning stove unchecked when you went out. Or it could be you neighbour did.

2nd example, the government didn’t do his job maintaining the dam well or they should hve known that it was not safe but still didn’t do anything.

Well, that’s it.

My message is that you shouldn’t rely on luck. Don’t think that it’s given, it’s bestowed. Don’t wait for it.  Because it’s just a bonus and therefore you yourself who is giving you luck.

So, start creating your future luck from now on !

Another Speed Painting 210508

This one is a form of the manifestation of Vagabond covers style and Grandyoukan’s artworks which in the end resulting a very much different stuff ! LOL. I shan’t expect much since the result not even close to what in my mind at the beginning hahaha !

Anyway, I’m happy to tell you that I think I’ve made some improvement than my last practise, although I’m still lacking control of the figure drawing.

I managed to add more details and create the “finished look” to it, esp. with the editing in Photoshop 7. OMG I’m so dependent to it now ! ^^;

I painted this on OC3.03 for about 1 hr and realized at the end of his OMG so long neck :

then I moved to Adobe Photoshop 7 for editing. I edited his neck, improved the contrast and add textures to make it far richer than the raw product :

Somehow I accidentally found out that it’s pretty much interesting to make it even darker with multiply layer. I stick to the bright one since that’s what I intended to come up with but this one made me wonder :D;;

Which one do you think is better? If you care about some in-depth discussion about it please visit here.

And you can also look how I did it in OC through the event file although you shouldn’t expect much XD;;
